Physical Description: The Busani are winged humanoids of similar size to humans. Their leathery wings have a total span of about one and a half times their height. The wings emerge from their back, below their arms, and extend down to their hips. Powerful muscles extend from the wing roots to the chest. When they fly, they must tuck their legs in to maintain proper balance.

They use their human like arms and hands for carrying, tool making, and deploying hunting weapons. Their strong human like legs carry them over long distances when the air is too hot and thin for flight and they must migrate to the cooler side of their tidally locked planet. Strong legs also help with climbing for flight launching from trees or cliffs. Their hands and feet have more claw than nails. Long, prehensile tails help with flight dexterity. Two small horns on their forehead assist with basic defense.

Their planet's thick atmosphere results in their having relatively small ears. Forward looking, large eyes with slitted irises provide stereoscopic vision. Their small red dwarf star's light is dim and mostly orange to infrared. Their color perception ranges from green to infrared allowing them to see body heat. Their eyes have just two kinds of color receptors, so their ability to resolve colors is less than normal for humans. Females nurse their young with a pair of breasts that only swell during nursing. Due to frequent electrical storms on their planet, they evolved an immunity to electric shocks.

Society: Frequent, random changes in their star's output causes significant changes in climate forcing them to migrate to more temperate areas. They were never able to develop agriculture so their society remains at the hunter gatherer level. They have domesticated large, winged animals that help with migrations. They live in tribal groups consisting of four to six families. Each family consists of pair bonded male and females and typically two to four offspring.

Tidally locked worlds such as theirs don't have day/night cycles. In the temperate zone, the sun remains fixed near the horizon. Busani do sleep, however. Their natural 'day' is about 26 'Earth' hours with about 6 hours of deep sleep when they are stationary and at ease. When alert or when migrating, a light sleep, where left and right brain hemispheres alternate sleeping takes the place of deep sleep. This is similar to how dolphins or some migrating birds sleep. Light sleep is not as rejuvenating and usually leaves them feeling a bit irritable.

In addition to animal domestication, their technology includes stone age equivalents such as archery and spears. Their clothing is made from animal skins and only worn during cold climates. They normally stay naked like equatorial humans.

They frequently practice recreational sex with their mates. They are quite passionate and a bit impulsive. They quarrel with each other and occasionally fight, but are too individualistic to form into armies and fight an actual war.

They are illiterate, but enjoy a rich culture with music, story telling, and poetry. They share their stories with other tribes they come into contact with.

Relations: Busani lack technology to leave their world on their own, but when any of them are seen on other worlds, they are frequently feared. Some cultures even assume they are demons. They often try to overcome strong prejudices against them with intimate contact, but that tactic often backfires and just reinforces the perception that they are demons. They quickly learn good disguise techniques to blend in among human populations.

Alignment/Religion: Most Busani have a strong sense of right and wrong and will not harm people they consider innocent. They will, however, not hesitate to use deadly force to protect themselves, their family, and others they consider worthy of their protection.

Their ecology is dominated by a never moving sun and its wandering companions, the inner planets. They perceive these as gods with the sun being the main god. They strive to restrain their impulsive behavior under the ever watchful gaze of their sun god, but they do not consider sex as something that should be constrained. When members of their species are on planets with day and night cycles, their behavior may become erratic. Some fear the night, while others see nighttime as an opportunity to act even more impulsively, thus reinforcing their unfortunate reputation as demons.

Adventures: Busani are used to frequent, unplanned migrations so take well to adventuring. Their curious nature often motivates them to volunteer for long adventures. Their fierce willingness and ability to defend their teammates make them valuable members of an expedition party, but their strong individualism and impulsiveness may cause problems with strongly lead groups.
